The Benefits of Cucumber

The Benefits of Cucumber

The benefits of cucumber go beyond your salad plate. Packed with vitamins and antioxidants, cucumbers not only benefit the waistline, but also the health of your body and skin.

The Ultimate Water Fruit

Cucumbers, which belong to the same family as squash and watermelon, have one of the highest water contents of any solid food. With over 95% water content, cucumbers are extremely hydrating. Around 20% of our daily water intake comes from food, therefore eating this H2O-heavy fruit is a great way to meet your daily water intake.

Nourish the Body

Cucumbers are packed with vitamin A and C, in addition to B vitamins, potassium, and caffeic acid. These are all powerful antioxidants that reduce inflammation and also calm irritation. Combined with its high levels of water, cucumbers nourishing and hydrating effects help prevent memory loss, support a healthy digestive and cardiovascular system, relieve stress and anxiety, and also enhance the health of your skin.

Hydrate the Skin

This superfood is a great addition to your skin care regimen. Its soothing and calming effects help shrink irritated blood vessels, reducing the appearance of puffy eyes and redness. Cucumbers also fight skin irritation, aiding in the relief of sunburn and skin inflammation. And to top it all off, the extreme concentration of water and vitamin C keep the skin smooth, hydrated, and cooled.

Stay Cool this Summer

HollyBeth utilizes these amazing skin-nourishing properties in her best-selling Body Mist. This cucumber-based hair and skin refresher is the perfect addition to your beach bag. Just spritz it over your head and body to stay cool and revitalize the skin. A definite must-have for the hot days of summer.

HollyBeth’s Summer Hair Care Tips

HAIRCARE

Summer Frizzies

Summertime is in full swing. School is out, the pool is open, and a week at the beach may be in your near future. Life has officially moved outdoors into the sun and by the water. While the season of fun in the sun does wonders for the mind and spirit, it can also do one heck of a number on your hair. Humidity, chlorine, and sun exposure can wreak havoc on your locks, stripping away moisture and leaving behind a major case of the frizzies. In preparation for the hot months ahead, I asked organic skin care guru HollyBeth Anderson for some tips on how to ensure good hair days all summer long.

HollyBeth’s Tips for Great Summer Hair:

1 – Just as you protect your skin from UV damage, do so for your hair!

My favorite summer accessory is a lightweight scarf that I can use as a head wrap when I’m out in the sun. A scarf or a hat not only protects your hair from sun damage, but also the drying, tangling effects of the wind. Not a hat person? Get a spray bottle and mix a few teaspoons of sunscreen with a cup of water to create a light SPF hair mist.

2 – Be prepared for your activity.

Going to the pool to take a swim? Remember to rinse your hair before going in the water. This will help reduce the effects of chlorine on your strands. And as soon as you get out of the pool, wash and condition your hair. The quicker you get the chlorine out, the better. Going to the pool to soak up the sun rather than swim? Bring HollyBeth Organics’ Body Mist with you. A few spritzes of this cucumber and citrus body spray will cool you down and refresh your hair and skin.

3 – Consider a more laid back approach to styling your hair in the summer months.

Less is definitely more! Cut down the number of times you wash your hair and go for gentle shampoos that don’t leave behind buildup. Less time in a hot shower with heavy shampoo will give your hair time to regulate its natural oil production, which actually leads to less grease and more time between washes. Are you a heat styling addict? Give you hair a chance to air dry and cut back on the blow dryer and flat iron. I know that is way easier said than done, so I recommend protecting your mane with HollyBeth Organics’ Hair & Body Silk. This nourishing blend of camellia and argan oil locks in moisture and fortifies the hair, prepping the hair for heat styling and protecting it from the drying effects of the sun. When the frizz starts and your hair is in desperate need of hydration, a few drops of Hair & Body Silk tames fly aways and quenches thirsty, brittle hair. You can also use it as a deep conditioning treatment!

4 – Take care of yourself, on the inside and out.

Make sure you are getting the essential vitamins and minerals your body needs to stay healthy. Your mom was right – eat your veggies! What you put in your body affects your skin and your hair. The same applies to what you put on your skin and hair. Go organic! Keep it simple, keep it clean, and keep it natural. I guarantee you will feel (and see) a difference.

Are Organic Skin Care Products Effective?

Are Organic Skin Care Products Effective?

Are organic skin care products effective? A legit question to ask for those of us who have been raised on products containing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Though these chemical-based skin solutions can produce results, they can also irritate delicate facial skin, engender skin allergies, and disrupt the natural balance of your skin. Not to mention whatever you put on your skin is also going into your body. Kind of a scary thought when you take a look at the unfamiliar ingredients listed on the back of many drug store products.

The Power of Antioxidants

So what is the alternative? Can organic skin care products deliver real results? The answer is YES! HollyBeth’s organic skin care products are made with pure, natural oils. Natural oils derived from plants, flowers, and fruits are packed full of powerful antioxidants that nourish and rejuvenate the skin. Antioxidants counteract destructive free radicals that age the skin by repairing and preventing cell damage. Mother Nature’s anti-aging serum!

Organic Skin Care Solutions

HollyBeth Organics utilizes various natural oils known for their skin-healing abilities, such as camellia, calendula, and jojoba combined with essential oils like rose geranium, clary sage, lavender, and grapefruit to create luxuriously effective skin care solutions that counteract the signs of aging and promote youthful, healthy skin.  Skin is nourished, balanced, and protected without the damaging effects of chemicals and artificial ingredients.

History of Festival

Inman Park Festival is this weekend! Every year on the last weekend in April, the streets around HollyBeth Organics’ studio come alive to celebrate one of Atlanta’s oldest neighborhoods – Inman Park. Starting in the 1970’s, the community came together to promote the area and attract newcomers with a lively jamboree of music, art, food, and entertainment. The festival has become a major event in Atlanta, attracting people from all over to the lively festivities.

Things to Do

Inman Park Festival is like no other. The entire community works together to put on one of Atlanta’s most exciting celebrations. The streets are turned into a giant artist market place, music venue, and food court. You will find the most unique handmade crafts, artwork, furniture, clothing, plants, trinkets, and so much more amongst a sea of live music, entertainment, and delicious food options (it is the only time of year I am allowed to have a funnel cake). You can also tour a selection of Inman Park’s oldest, most beautiful homes, dating back to the early 1900s. And of course, the crowd favorite Inman Park Parade. Full of crazy floats, amazing costumes, marching bands (including Atlanta’s favorite Feed & Seed Marching Abominables) and wild energy, this eclectic street party on wheels is not to be missed!

We Love Our Neighborhood

HollyBeth Organics is proud to call Inman Park home. We are so thankful to be a part of a community that celebrates life, love, and peace. See you at Festival!

Nighttime Skin Care Routine: 3 Steps to Cleanse, Protect, & Nourish

Improve Your Skin While You Sleep

Your nighttime skin care routine plays an important role in the condition of your skin. Those eight hours of sleep (well, maybe more like 5 – 8 hours depending on life’s busy schedule) are prime time for your body to relax, recuperate, and repair.  Help your skin to take advantage of your slumber with some pre-sleep face prep.

Wash Away the Day

I never go to bed without washing my face. My go-to nightly face wash is HollyBeth Organics’ Chamomile Foaming Cleanser. For normal to dry skin, this face wash beautifully cleanses the skin without stripping it of moisture.  100% USDA certified organic, HollyBeth’s Chamomile Foaming Face Cleanser is made from the goodness of Mother Nature, meaning there are no chemicals or artificial ingredients that will linger behind on your skin. Skin is naturally cleansed, balanced, and prepped for the next step in my nighttime skin care routine.

Combat Irritation

With blemish-prone skin, I like a little extra insurance to protect me from future breakouts. HollyBeth Organics’ Marigold Bergamot Dry Oil is my solution. A few drops applied to my freshly washed skin protect and repair from below the surface, maintaining the skin’s natural balance while combating irritation and acne. And because it is dry oil, there is no greasy film or heavy buildup. It sinks directly into the skin and won’t clog pores.

Nourish the Eye Area

The final step in my nighttime skin care routine is HollyBeth Organics’ Eye Cream. A fan favorite and best seller, HollyBeth’s Eye Cream hydrates, smoothes, and invigorates the eye area, allowing you to wake up refreshed and dark circle free. My husband and I won’t go to bed without it!

Cleanse, protect, and nourish while you sleep with a little extra help from HollyBeth Organics’ 100 % USDA certified skin care solutions.

Ode to Rose Geranium Toner

rosegeraniumronerflower

I am in love with HollyBeth Organics’ Rose Geranium Toner. In fact, it is one of my all-time favorite skin care products, and I won’t leave home without it. Looking for a great-smelling body mist? Need a toner to sooth your skin? Want to keep your makeup in place all day long? How about a rehydrating midday pick-me-up? This product does it all! Oh, Rose Geranium Toner, how I love thee, let me count the ways . . .

Great-Smelling Body Mist

Rose and geranium combine to create a rich, rosy smell that will make anyone feel like royalty. Get blanketed in luxury with each spray of this beautifully fragrant body mist. Just imagine standing under a waterfall of rose petals!

Soothing Toner

Keep your skin in check with this Rose Geranium Toner’s antiseptic properties of rose geranium hydrosol, nourishing rose oil, and anti-inflammatory helichrysum. This sooth-all skin solution calms and heals with each spray.

Makeup Setting Spray

Tired of your makeup running off your face by the end of the day? The last step of your morning routine should be a few sprays of the Rose Geranium Toner to set everything in place to keep your face game going strong.

Midday Refresher

Been running around all day? Just got off of a long flight? You know that icky, weighed-down feeling your skin gets when you have been going non-stop? A few sprays of the Rose Geranium Toner will rehydrate your skin and refresh your senses with a much-needed pick-me-up.

Seriously, this toner has earned a spot of honor in my makeup bag. Reward your skin (and your senses!) with this ultimate jack of all trades.

How to Wash Your Face – Tips to Improve Your Skin Care Routine

How to Wash Your Face

Washing my face has been an every-day part of my life since, well, forever. When I wake up and when I go to bed, my face gets a thorough cleansing. After reading Marie Claire’s article “This Is How You Should *Really* Be Washing Your Face”, I realized it was time to make a few changes to my routine.

Start with a Cleansing Oil

I have to admit, there are nights when even after I wash my face, I know I still have a little eye makeup or powder left over. Marie Claire explains that simply washing your face will not remove all of your makeup. Start by using a cleansing oil to remove makeup and excess lotion before you wash your face. I suggest HollyBeth Organics’ Cleansing Oil. This purifying blend of camellia and avocado oil combined with lavender and anti-oxidants lifts away excess dirt while soothing the skin.

You May Not Need to Wash Twice Daily

I’ve always been a wash twice daily kind of gal. Marie Claire suggests the number of times you wash your face should be based on your skin type. If you have dry skin, stick to once a day. Prone to oily skin? Morning and night may still be the way to go. Either way, pay attention to what your skin needs. Over-cleansing can strip your skin of moisture.

Oily Skin? Go for a Foaming Wash

I tend to have oily skin – which will help combat wrinkles in the future! But for now, it just makes me feel greasy. Marie Claire recommends using a foaming cleanser, for it leaves the skin feeling thoroughly cleansed without any left-over residue. HollyBeth Organics has an amazing Marigold Foaming Facial Cleanser that deep cleans and balances the skin while combating oil.

Change can be good – especially if it means balanced, radiant skin. Thanks for the great tips Marie Claire!

HollyBeth’s Three Favorite Skin Care Products for Traveling

travelupdated

Short-Sleeve Travel Weather is Around the Corner

When it’s a sunny, 60 degree day in February, you can’t help but long for short-sleeve shirt weather and spring road trips. Inspired by the surprise heat, HollyBeth and I couldn’t help but discuss our favorite places to travel to as we ate lunch today. Exotic beaches with white sand, classic cities home to great art and architecture, off-the-map locations promising fun and adventure, and familiar favorites full of good memories: we want to visit them all! Almost time to get those passports ready – and figure out what to pack.

Packing for a Trip

Ah, the process of packing for a trip. If you are anything like me, you want to pack your entire closet, because you may get the chance to break in those shoes you‘ve never worn, to wear that dress that has been begging for a night out, or use that cute rain jacket that just might come in handy – you see where I am going with this. Once the hypothetical outfit situations are covered, time to narrow down your toiletry bag.

With the skin care guru herself sitting next to me at lunch, I couldn’t resist asking her which HollyBeth Organics’ products are her favorite skin care products for traveling.

HollyBeth’s Must-Have Skin Care Products for Traveling

  1. Rose Geranium Toner – A few squirts of this flower-flavored beauty mist refreshes and rehydrates (and makes you smell good). An excellent pick-me-up when you have been traveling all day.
  2. Eye Cream – A HollyBeth Organics classic (the first product she created), this luxuriously silky cream keeps delicate skin hydrated and moisturized. The perfect eye refresher after a tiring day of adventures.
  3. Chamomile Foaming Cleanser – This gentle yet sudsy cleanser removes the day’s dirt and oil, leaving behind soothed, balanced skin. Great for all skin types, so everyone in your travel party can use it.

So now I know what I’m bringing with me on my next vacation!

Tips for Relaxing During the Work Week

Tips for Relaxing During the Work Week

It is almost the weekend – but not quite yet. There is still one more day of meetings, deadlines, errands, appointments, and obligations that demand your attention. By the time the weekend comes around, all of your energy has been zapped, and two days on the sofa with a movie marathon and some takeout sounds amazing, right? It’s an ongoing cycle of all work then all rest. Tired of being tired all weekend? Here are some ways to balance work with relaxation all week long.

Turn Off Your TV

We have all been behind that person in traffic with a “kill your TV” bumper sticker. Not the extent that I’m suggesting, but a few nights with the television turned off will give your brain some much-needed R&R. Give your mind a chance to recoup from sensory overload, and allow yourself to focus on something soothing, like a book or some music.

Get Physical

Sitting in an office chair all week can make anyone feel sluggish. Keep yourself energized by incorporating some kind of physical activity into your daily routine. I’m not preaching a 6:00am boot camp workout; I mean start your morning out with some good stretches or step away from your desk for an afternoon walk. Anything that gets you moving!

Have Fun

We all have things we are obligated to do; however, it is important to treat yourself with some time to do what you want to do. Catch up with some friends over dinner, check out that new movie, enjoy a good concert – whatever it is that puts a smile on your face (and rewards you for all that hard work you do).

Take Care of Yourself

Your physical health has an effect on your mental health. Take care of yourself! Just as your body benefits from pure, natural foods, go for clean, organic skincare products that will keep your skin balanced and hydrated. Check out HollyBethOrganics.com to discover skincare solutions that will keep you looking good and feeling good. One of my favorites is the Nourishing Body Oil. Just add a few drops to a hot bath for a spa-like moisturizing treatment!

Life is about balance. All work and no play . . . well, you know what I mean.

Choosing the Best Skin Care Line

Untitled-14

So Many Choices

With so many different body products out there, how do you choose the best skin care line for you? Watching television last night, I counted five different skin care advertisements in an hour time slot! And what about all of the ever-changing ingredient fads? From grapefruit and charcoal, celebrity-endorsed concoctions infused with rare melons to expensive chemical peels and injectables, even exclusive creams made with gold, the choices can be overwhelming (and sometimes absurd).  So where do you start when you have so many options?

Pros & Cons

Begin by taking a look at what you have used in the past. Make a pros and cons list, highlighting the product lines that have been the most beneficial as well as the most lack-luster. What stands out? Are there certain skin care lines that cleared up your acne but also dried out your skin? Or perhaps a brand that was ultra-hydrating but made you feel oily by the end of the day?

Know Your Skin Type

Knowing your skin type will play a huge role in which skin care line you should be using. If you find certain products zap your skin of moisture and cause flakes, you are prone to dry skin. Feel like certain products leave you with a shiny T-zone by the end of the day? You may have oily skin. Go back to that pros and cons list and see which skincare products have produced the most balancing results for you.

The Importance of Ingredients

Now let’s take a look at the ingredients in your skin care products. In my quest for clear skin, I relied heavily on chemical-based products that severely dried out my skin. Looking back at my pros and cons list, I discovered that I have sensitive, acne-prone skin that is irritated by lab-made product lines and heavy prescription creams. It was not until I started using simple, organic products with pure ingredients that my skin found proper balance. I find this to be the case with a lot of people who have sensitive skin. Chemicals are irritants, foreign to delicate skin. The best skin care lines are organic, made with prescriptions from Mother Nature, not Dr. Chemical.

What does your pros and cons list say about your skin? Maybe it is time to try something new. Check out HollyBethOragnics.com to discover USDA Certified Organic skin-balancing solutions. I promise you will find some more pros to add to your list!
