columbine

A native wildflower to North America, there is around 70 species of columbine. Medicinally the petals have been used as an astringent and to sooth sore throats, however, the roots and seeds are poisonous. Symbolism of the flower ranges from foolishness to Aphrodite, Mary Magdalene and mourning dove; Columba meaning dove in Latin.
