Happy Mother’s Day

This Sunday is Mother’s Day, a time to celebrate those that have been a major force of support and inspiration in your life. Be it your mother, caregiver, or any person in your life who has guided you, it is time to say thank you – and shower them with love (and gifts!).

Origins

The origins of Mother’s Day start with the Greeks and Romans celebrating mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele with festivals. The contemporary inspiration comes from the older Christian tradition of “Mothering Sunday,” in which devoted followers would return to their mother church for Lent services. As the years progressed, the tradition turned into holiday in which children honor their mothers with gifts, such as flowers and mementoes.

Modern Holiday

Traditional American Mother’s Day owes its place on the calendar to Anna Jarvis. After the death of her mother in 1905, she pushed for a permanent way to honor all mothers, as well as establish a holiday that celebrates the achievement of women (at the time most holidays were androcentric). Anna Jarvis’ mission to pay tribute to mothers resulted in President Woodrow Wilson declaring the second Sunday in May officially Mother’s Day.

Thank You

Though every day should be Mother’s Day, it is time to officially pay tribute to mom. Did you know Mother’s Day holds the record for most phone calls made in a day, topping every other day of the year? Time to make that phone call, send those flowers and gifts, and remind moms everywhere how important they are.

The Perfect Gift

Still looking for that special something to send mom this year? HollyBeth Organics offers a wonderful selection of inspired gifts, including new Flourish Calming Perfume, our exclusive Rose Geranium Soy Candle, gift certificates, and more!

Inman Park Festival 2016

History of Festival

Inman Park Festival is this weekend! Every year on the last weekend in April, the streets around HollyBeth Organics’ studio come alive to celebrate one of Atlanta’s oldest neighborhoods – Inman Park. Starting in the 1970’s, the community came together to promote the area and attract newcomers with a lively jamboree of music, art, food, and entertainment. The festival has become a major event in Atlanta, attracting people from all over to the lively festivities.

Things to Do

Inman Park Festival is like no other. The entire community works together to put on one of Atlanta’s most exciting celebrations. The streets are turned into a giant artist market place, music venue, and food court. You will find the most unique handmade crafts, artwork, furniture, clothing, plants, trinkets, and so much more amongst a sea of live music, entertainment, and delicious food options (it is the only time of year I am allowed to have a funnel cake). You can also tour a selection of Inman Park’s oldest, most beautiful homes, dating back to the early 1900s. And of course, the crowd favorite Inman Park Parade. Full of crazy floats, amazing costumes, marching bands (including Atlanta’s favorite Feed & Seed Marching Abominables) and wild energy, this eclectic street party on wheels is not to be missed!

We Love Our Neighborhood

HollyBeth Organics is proud to call Inman Park home. We are so thankful to be a part of a community that celebrates life, love, and peace. See you at Festival!

Atlanta Artisans We Love: Honeycomb Studio

Meet Courtney Hamill

Our city has been blessed with an impressive variety of Atlanta artisans creating unique, hand-crated wares, including Courtney Hamill, creator and owner of Honeycomb Studio, a small-batch porcelain shop located in the Studioplex Lofts (the same creative complex as HollyBeth Organics!).

Honeycomb Studio

Just walk inside the doors of Honeycomb Studio, and you will not want to leave without at least one of Courtney’s porcelain pieces. She creates each one individually, producing one-of-a-kind works of art with each session at her pottery wheel.  The shelves of Honeycomb are filled with gorgeous ceramic bottles, vases, and bowls adorned with hand-painted details of color and gold, as well as striking porcelain antler sculptures and charming salt cellars and barware. Trust me – you will not be able to take the smile off your face as you walk around admiring the beauty of Courtney’s work.

Sustainable Candles

Wanting to create a sustainable candle that not only smells great but looks great, HollyBeth commissioned Honeycomb Studio to create the stunning vessels we use to house our limited edition Rose Geranium Soy Candles. We are excited for fellow candle lovers to enjoy the fragrant, flowery aroma crafted with HollyBeth’s favorite rose and geranium essential oils, as well as a re-usable vessel that will remain yours to keep as a distinctive piece of art.

Go to HollyBethOrganics.com to purchase this two-in-one delight for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for a loved one this Valentine’s Day.

Atlanta Shopping: In Search of the Perfect Gifts

February is a month of gift-giving occasions for me. Of course Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, but I also have my friend’s wedding anniversary and my sister-in-law’s birthday to celebrate. So, my present list consists of a fella who insists he doesn’t need anything (my husband), a fashionista with impeccable taste (my friend), and a mother of two who is always on the go (my sister in law). Sounds like a busy weekend of shopping in Atlanta!

Highland Row

Rather than run around the city, I decided to go to one of the best shopping spots in the Poncey-Highlands area of Atlanta. Often referred to as “Highland Row,” this charming lineup of boutiques offers a variety of unique crafts and gifts. First stop, Highland Row Antiques. This two story antique store has something for everyone. I find a musical gift for my husband in one of the used record bins and head next store to Young Blood Boutique, the perfect spot to find artisan crafted jewelry. I pick out a beautiful necklace sure to please my fashionable friend and head to my favorite store on the block: Fig & Flower.

Fig & Flower

This green beauty boutique offers natural, cruelty-free beauty products, including HollyBeth Organics, the only 100% USDA Certified Organic skincare product line in Georgia. I go straight for HollyBeth Organics’ Rose Geranium Face Moisturizer, a favorite of my sister-in-law not only for its hydrating power but also for its delightful flowery fragrance.

HollyBeth Online

Knowing my sister-in-law’s love of HollyBeth’s rose geranium aroma, I hopped online and sent her one of HollyBeth Organics’ limited edition Rose Geranium Candles, each hand-made with eco-friendly soy wax and packaged in a porcelain vessel made by Atlanta’s own Honeycomb Studio. Go to HollyBethOrganics.com to purchase this one-of-a-kind candle, beautifully gift wrapped and ready to go.

Looks like I’m all set! Now time to shop for some more HollyBeth Organics products just for me ;).

Happy Weekend – Let’s Go to Arabia Mountain

arabiamountain

It is a beautiful Saturday afternoon here in Atlanta. The sun is shining, the sky is clear, and rumor has it the temperature is going to reach 64 degrees today. What a delightful surprise for the last weekend in January, especially since there was snow on the ground only a week ago.

Arabia Mountain

Time to take advantage of this fortuitous break from the cold and head outside!  And a day like today is perfect for a trip to Arabia Mountain. About 25 minutes outside of downtown Atlanta, this rock mountain’s unique topography hosts beautiful plant life, water formations, and landscapes that make you feel like you’re on another planet. This little piece of outer space has both bike and hiking trails, perfect for a full day of outdoor fun (and dogs are welcome, too!).

Wash Away the Dirt

After a day of navigating rocks, water, and hiking trails, you may be feeling a little sweaty and grimy. For those of us who are acne prone or have sensitive skin, sweat and oil can lead to a rash or breakouts. Wash the dirt away with HollyBeth Organics’ Cleansing Oil. Made with camellia, avocado, and lavender oils, this natural cleanser is antiseptic and antioxidant rich, healing and soothing while hydrating the skin. Calm skin irritations and knock out bacteria while infusing your skin with moisture.

No matter what you get into this weekend, make sure to give your skin some much-needed rest and relaxation. Every part of us – including our skin! – needs some time to unwind and regroup.

Have a great weekend!
